To promote revitalization in Tonawanda's central business district, the City of Tonawanda applied for and received funding from the New York Department of State under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund to establish a Main Street Program. Working in partnership with the Western Erie Canal Alliance (WECA), the program serves to establish a sustainable grassroots community organization focued on addressing yhe needs of the Main Street area.

The porgram is developed in accordance with Main Street America, formerly the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Program. The approach of this national program centers on economic development within the context of histroic preservation.

Efforts to support revitalization continue as Tonawanda Main Street sets up the Main Street Area Program and builds a community-based organzation specifically for the City of Tonawanda's Main Street Area. to find out more information about the program, please visit:
